It's a mighty hard row that my poor hands have hoed My poor feet have traveled a hot dusty road Out of your Dust Bowl and Westward we rolled And your deserts were hot and your mountains were cold I worked in your orchards of peaches and prunes I slept on the ground in the light of the moon On the edge of the city you'll see us and then We come with the dust and we go with the wind California, Arizona, I harvest your crops Well its North up to Oregon to gather your hops Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vine To set on your table your light sparkling wine Green pastures of plenty from dry desert ground From the Grand Coulee Dam where the waters run down Every state in the Union us migrants have been We'll work in this fight and we'll fight till we win It's always we rambled, that river and I All along your green valley, I will work till I die My land I'll defend with my life if it be Cause my pastures of plenty must always be free

He'd always whistle Jolie Blonde On his way out the back door on a Friday night So many times he just stayed gone Rarely did he try to treat your mama right Shut off the tractor with the field half mowed Set the brake and headed down the road Came home for Christmas Never said where he'd been With No presents for the children Only stories for the men (Chorus) Still your mama called him daddy She never told him no Said she couldn't help but love him You wondered how it could be so He'd work two weeks out on a river barge She worked in the factory never missed a day He'd spend his week off holding up the bar Never took him long to drink a deckhand's pay Wind off the river Cut the lines on his face And left him dreaming of some other place Maybe Memphis town or Baton Rouge When it's cold in Cape Girardeau There's nothing much to do (Chorus) And if his suitcase wasn't standing in the hall He might not be coming home at all And all the sides of him you never knew before Would be drifting down the river to another back door (Chorus)

I wished I was smarter I wished I was stronger I wished I loved Jesus The way my wife does I wish it had been easier Instead of any longer I wished I could have stood where you would have been proud But that won't happen now That won't happen now There's a whole lot of singing, it's never gonna be heard Disappearing every day without so much as a word somehow Think I broke the wings off that little songbird She's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now Top of the world I don't have to answer any of these questions Don't have no God to teach me no lessons I come home in the evening Sit in my chair One night they called me for supper But I never got up I stayed right there in my chair There's a whole lot of singing it's never gonna be heard Disappearing every day without so much as a word somehow Think I broke the wings off that little songbird She's never gonna fly to the top of the world right now I wished I'd known you Wished I'd shown you All of the things I was on the inside I'd pretend to be sleeping When you come in in the morning To whisper good-bye Go to work in the rain I don't know why Don't know why 'Cause everyone's singing We just wanna be heard Disappearing everyday without so much as a word somehow Wanna grab a hold of that little songbird Take her for a ride to the top of the world right now Woah, woah To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world To the top of the world

Donald's gane up the hill hard and hungry, Donald comes down the hill wild and angry; Donald will clear the gouk's nest cleverly, Here's to the king and Donald Macgillavry. Come like a weighbauk, Donald Macgillavry, Come like a weighbauk, Donald Macgillavry, Balance them fair, and balance them cleverly: Off wi'the counterfeit, Donald Macgillavry. Donald's run o'er the hill but his tether, man, As he were wud, or stang'd wi' an ether, man; When he comes back, there's some will look merrily: Here's to King James and Donald Macgillavry. Come like a weaver, Donald Macgillavry, Come like a weaver, Donald Macgillavry, Pack on your back, and elwand sae cleverly; Gie them full measure, my Donald Macgillavry. Donald has foughten wi' rief and roguery; Donald has dinner'd wi banes and beggary, Better it were for Whigs and Whiggery Meeting the devil than Donald Macgillavry. Come like a tailor, Donald Macgillavry, Come like a tailor, Donald Macgillavry, Push about, in and out, thimble them cleverly, Here's to King James and Donald Macgillavry. Donald's the callan that brooks nae tangleness; Whigging and prigging and a'newfangleness, They maun be gane: he winna be baukit, man: He maun hae justice, or faith he'll tak it, man. Come like a cobler, Donald Macgillavry, Come like a cobler, Donald Macgillavry; Beat them, and bore them, and lingel them cleverly, Up wi' King James and Donald Macgillavry. Donald was mumpit wi mirds and mockery; Donald was blinded wi' blads o' property; Arles ran high, but makings were naething, man, Lord, how Donald is flyting and fretting, man. Come like the devil, Donald Macgillavry, Come like the devil, Donald Macgillavry; Skelp them and scaud them that proved sae unbritherly, Up wi King James and Donald Macgillavry!

Dragon tales and the "water is wide" Pirates sail and lost boys fly Fish bite moonbeams every night And I love you Godspeed, little man Sweet dreams, little man Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angel's wings Godspeed Sweet dreams The rocket racer's all tuckered out Superman's in pyjamas on the couch Goodnight moon, we'll find the mouse And I love you Godspeed, little man Sweet dreams, little man Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angels wings Godspeed Sweet dreams God bless mommy and matchbox cars God bless dad and thanks for the stars God hears "Amen, " wherever we are And I love you Godspeed, little man Sweet dreams, little man Oh, my love will fly to you each night on angels wings Godspeed Godspeed Godspeed Sweet dreams

As I look at the valley down below It is green just as far as I can see As my memory returns, how my heart does yearn For you and the days that used to be High on a mountain living free Thinking about the days that used to be High on a mountain standing alone Wondering where the years of my life have gone I wonder if you ever think of me Or if time's blotted out your memory As I listen to the breeze blow gently through the trees I'll always cherish what you meant to me High on a mountain living free Thinking about the days that used to be High on a mountain standing alone Wondering where the years of my life have gone High on a mountain living free Thinking about the days that used to be High on a mountain standing alone Wondering where the years of my life have gone

Scarlet Town 04:50
Buddy I went down to Scarlet Town Never been there before Well you slept on a feather bed I slept on the floor I don't mind a little town Or drinking my coffee cold But the things I seen in Scarlet Town Did mortify my soul Look at that deep well Look at that dark ray Ringing that iron bell In Scarlet Town today I spent some time in New Orleans And ? A Scarlet Town brought me down Low as I ever been Look at that deep well Look at that dark ray Ringing that iron bell In Scarlet Town today On the day I came to Scarlet Town You promised I'd be your bride You left me here to rot away Like holly on a mountainside Look at that deep well Look at that dark ray Ringing that iron bell In Scarlet Town today Now you may hide in Scarlet Town For a hundred years or more But the man who knows what time it is Is knocking at the door So fare you well, my own true love If you ever see me around I'll be looking through a telescope From hell to Scarlet Town Look at that deep well Look at that dark ray Ringing that iron bell In Scarlet Town today

about
